Top 10 Digital Trends for 2017

Intelligent, digital and mesh. These three topics are the basis of the major strategic technology trends in 2017, according to Gartner. The following points should be on everyone’s agenda for next year.

Trend 1: AI & advanced machine learning are providing systems that can understand, predict, learn and adapt. They are able to create even more intelligent devices and programs, or act autonomously.

Trend 2: Intelligent Apps (like personal assistant apps) make everyday tasks easier and more efficiently. Gartner expects most of the world’s largest 200 companies to have intelligent apps by 2018.

Trend 3: Intelligent Things like robots, drones and autonomous vehicles will support a new phase of business. AI systems will enable a collaborative model with intelligent things communicating and acting together.

Trend 4: Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) change the way people interact with each other and with software systems.

Trend 5: Digital Twins combine physics data and real world data to analyze and simulate conditions and improve operations.

Trend 6: Blockchains add trust and security by grouping value exchange transactions into blocks, providing transparent access to information in the chain.

Trend 7: Conversational systems will evolve using sight, sounds and tactile as well as speech, changing the connection of people processes, things and services.

Trend 8: Mesh App and Service Architecture (MASA) is a longterm architectural shift to support multiple users using all devices and networks together.

Trend 9: The 5 digital technology platforms that companies need to build upon: Information systems, customer experience, analytics and intelligence, Internet of Things and business ecosystems.

Trend 10: Adaptive security architecture has to be taken into account early in the design of new services, software and techniques.
